Fruit Ninja Review
Fruit Ninja Review

Fruit ninja was one of the first games that went viral on smartphones. It was one of the first games that actually took advantage of a touch screen and people loved the game for it. There was something about using your fingers to cut fruits that made Fruit ninja a joy to play.

At the moment fruit ninja has a lot of sundry elements to it. But back in 2010 when it was released on iPod touch. The game was entertainingly simple; personally my motto is and always has been “less is more”. This was also fruit ninja’s motto because at its start the game was nothing more than slicing fruits and people loved it. Core mechanics were and still are pretty much the same. The classic mode consists of just plain and simple fruit slaughter; which at the time was one of the best pass-times ever, and some might argue that it still is. Over the years that game has diversified into different modes & customized swords. But in my opinion the classic mode is still the best. BTW, did this is the only game that I know that has the functionality to support 20 finger touch at the same time ;)

There was a lot of praise for the art-style used in the game but I found it a bit familiar to angry birds. The interface however is a different story. The developers used game-play features in the interface which was refreshingly innovative. Instead of tapping on buttons players have to slash the fruits to select the option which is a fun little part of navigation.

I know I have praised the game for its simplicity but at times fruit ninja is “too simple” when compared to other games in the market which is why the number of active players has decreased over time. After a while of slicing the game just becomes dull and repetitive. Some food for thought to game developers “Even a serial killer gets bored of slaughtering” their victims. I give the game a generous 6/10.
